RIVERDALE

Riverdale is a diverse neighbourhood in the east end of Toronto ideally located only minutes from downtown Toronto. Riverdale stretches from the Don River in the west to Pape Ave in the east, and south of the Danforth all the way down to Lake Shore Boulevard. It is further subdivided into three smaller and unique neighbourhoods – Riverside, East Chinatown, and the Studio District.

There are many fantastic Riverdale homes for sale, and with the wide variety of home styles and diversity in the neighbourhood, there is sure to be a perfect fit for everyone. There are classic Edwardian and Victorian homes, as well as smaller, more modern homes and apartment buildings. Most of these Edwardian and Victorian homes are south of Gerrard Street and were built between the 1880’s and the Great Depression. Gentrification over the past two decades caused the neighbourhood to become more popular and diverse, with house prices following suit and dramatically increasing in value over the same time period.

One of the things that makes Riverdale so interesting and popular is that there are several different cultural neighbourhoods within the area. For example, Danforth Ave is the centre of Greek Town. Additionally, parts of Broadview Ave and Gerrard Street East are home to a cluster of Asian shops and restaurants, which is known as East Chinatown. From souvlaki to dim sum, Riverdale has you covered.

Riverdale is home to a variety of public and private schools, making it a great place to raise a family. These include one public middle school, one public high school, two alternative middle schools and three junior public schools. Holy Name Catholic School teaches children of the faith from K-8 and the independent Montcrest School also caters to K-8.

Riverdale is a great place to raise a family, and one of the major reasons for that is beautiful and expansive Withrow Park, an outdoor space loved by generations of Riverdale residents. Located in the heart of Riverdale, it is a perfect place for families to spend an afternoon enjoying the day and the weather. It also has an outdoor skating rink which is ideal entertainment for the whole family in the cold winter months.

Riverdale also offers a vibrant and thriving arts community, which makes the neighbourhood perfect for young professionals and eclectic artists. The Opera House is a popular local music venue in the Riverside neighbourhood of Riverdale and hosts many local and national music acts. There are also several major films studios located in South Riverdale in what is known as the Studio District – keep your eyes open and you might spot a star. Autographs anyone?
